Eternal Ink
Tattoos from the Spirit worlds

From the tattooed woman of the Indian jungle, to shape-shifting shamans and tattoos of supernatural power and protection, ‘Eternal Ink’ offers a rare glimpse into worlds not often seen. Spanning four continents and many remote locations, this is also a personal journey for Maellyn as she receives her own tattoos and begins to understand what is at the core of some of the oldest known tattoo traditions.

Although tattoos have become mainstream in recent times, and anyone can choose a design that takes their fancy, this wasn’t always the case. In fact, the oldest tattoos had very specific uses, and were at the heart of many spiritual and healing traditions.

The film explores tattoos as a vehicle of culture, and offers a unique perspective on the hard-wiring of the human brain, and the link between spiritual practices and the tattoo designs.

Tattoo anthropologist Dr. Lars Krutak (aka TattooHunter), makes an appearance, explaining the surprisingly effective medical technologies inherent in many indigenous tattoos.

‘Eternal Ink’ is also available on Tubi, Xumo and PlayNow Media.

The film was directed by Maellyn, who also wrote, produced, presented, filmed and edited it. She composed most of the soundtrack.  Two songs by Dubai musician Nina Oud are also featured.

Maellyn is a South African born filmmaker with a passion for documenting extraordinary lives, customs and cultures.  Her work seeks to unlock the mysteries of ancestral wisdom for the modern world, and to inspire understanding and respect between all communities, and for the world we live in. She is no stranger to remote locations and unusual subjects.
